Frequently Asked Questions

When does school start?
School hours are 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Is before and after school care available?
Before school care is available through YKids beginning at 6:30 a.m. After school care is available until 6 p.m. Supervision is provided by a team of experienced child care providers. Students are assisted with homework and given opportunities to socialize and play. Child care is also offered to parents for school holidays.

Do you have half-day kindergarten?
We do not offer half-day kindergarten. We find a full-day program has many advantages for academic success. With more time for lessons, our teachers are able to offer a greater variety of whole child learning opportunities including time in the library and computer lab. They have more time to devote to students one-on-one and address individual needs. With fewer transitions in their day, kindergartners can focus better, learn more and become more comfortable in the school environment.

What size is the average classroom?
The average OLG homeroom has 22 students.

Do students switch classrooms?
Kindergarten and first grade students are taught each core subject by their homeroom teacher. Beginning in second grade, students switch classrooms — more frequently with each grade. Grades 4-8 switch each period of the day.

Do you have art, music or opportunities for enrichment?
Yes. All students, K-8, have classes in art and music as well as classes in technology, physical education and the opportunity to go to the library. Students in grades 4-8 also take Spanish classes. Students may have more than one type of enrichment class per week depending on their grade level. For example, grade 2 may see the technology teacher twice in one week.

Do you have services to support children with special needs?
Students who are experiencing academic difficulty may be referred to the Intervention Assistance Team (IAT), a team of teachers and professional staff, to assist in finding a solution. Our students also have the support of a school psychologist, instructional specialists, school nurse, speech and language specialist and Title 1 tutors.

Do you offer computer classes?
Yes. All students see the technology teacher at least once a week in our computer lab. A few grade levels may have two classes a week as they build their basic skills. Students in grades 4-8 have their own school email accounts  (through Google's GSuite for Education). Our Lady of Grace alsos provides the use of chromebooks in core subject classes for grades 4-8.

Can I view my child's grades online?
Yes. Parents have 24-hour access to student grades and assignments through a web-based application.

Do you have a gym?
Yes. The gym is available to all students for physical education.

Do you have a library?
Yes. The OLG library has over 10,000 titles — many coordinating with the Accelerated Reading program. All students have the opportunity to borrow books from the school library. Additionally, our junior high language arts teachers regularly schedule visits to the Groesbeck Public Library to take advantage of all the resources offered by the Hamilton County Public Library system.

How often do kids attend mass?
All students in grades 1-8 attend mass once a week. Students are encouraged to participate in liturgical celebrations as Eucharistic ministers, lectors, altar servers, or choir members.

Is hot lunch available?
Hot lunch and breakfast is available every day. You can purchase lunch credits online through the cafeteria's K-12 Payment Center or by sending in a check to our school cafeteria. Free and reduced lunch applications are available. More information is available on the cafeteria's webpage

What athletic teams can my child join?

OLG girls may choose: basketball, cheerleading, cross country (grades 6-8), track, or volleyball (grades 3-8).
