Academic Activities

Academic Team

Bible Bowl
The Bible Bowl is a trivia competition all about the Bible. Sixth grade students study their Bible knowledge and compete against area Catholic schools at a yearly competition in the Winter.

This is an after school enrichment class offered to students in grades 1-4. The class allows students to engage in a variety of activities while teaching them about science concepts.

Geography Bee
Students in grades four through eight compete at their grade level to earn a spot to compete against one another in the school’s National Geographic Bee. The overall winner has a chance to represent OLG in Columbus, OH in the National Geographic State Bee. The winner of the state competition goes on to participate in the National Geography Bee Championship in Washington, D.C.

Leadership Council
Each year, incoming seventh and eighth grade students are selected to be a part of the OLG Leadership Council. The students work with teachers on projects that promote leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. The OLG Leadership Council works together on projects and activities that range from community outreach to the promotion of school spirit.

Power of the Pen
Power of the Pen is a creative writing competition where students work on their writing skills to become better communicators. The Ohio program is designed for 7th and 8th graders to write interscholastically with a variety of prompts. Team members have the opportunity to compete at district, regional, and state levels. Our Lady of Grace writers often compete at the state competition.

Speech Team
Students in grades six through eight have the opportunity to participate in a speech competition.  The categories of competition are humorous and serious dialogue, humorous and serious monologue, as well as storytelling. The team meets from November until the competition date held in the Spring.

Spelling Bee
Students in grades five through eight have the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Eligible students must win at their grade levels in order to participate in the school-wide competition. The winner of this competition has the chance to represent Our Lady of Grace at the Regional Spelling Bee. The champion of this event wins an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Yearbook Club
Seventh and eighth grade students have the opportunity to take photos at school events to be published in the schools yearbook.
